Lot description:

Gordian III Æ25 of Hadrianopolis, Thrace. AD 238-244. ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟC ΑVΓ, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right / ΑΔΡΙΑΝΟΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ, city gate with two towers. Varbanov 3763. 8.02g, 30mm, 7h.

Good Fine.

The detail on this coin is so blundered because, upon close inspection, it is clear that it has been overstruck on an uncertain previous issue. This is most apparent below the city gate on the reverse where the previous obverse legend reading AVT K M ANT can be discerned.

Estimate: 60 GBP
